Hello, wonderful ladies of God! I trust the Lord that you are all doing well. Today, I want to talk about Matthew 10:16. Every time I was reading that verse, I would ask myself why Christ will advise us to be wise as serpent, I mean there are so much animals outside but why He did chose to use the serpent as a reference for wisdom and prudence. I do not know about you, but I have never felt comfortable while meditating on it. I came to realize that there was a meaning that needed to be revealed to me.
As christians, we will never accept that someone tell us that we are behaving as serpent. We have a very bad idea or image of the serpent because Satan himself is described as the Ancient Serpent in the book of Revelation and we all know that because of the same animal that happened to be used by the devil, sin entered into the world. The serpent is then for us as christian a very bad animal to use to take example. Sometimes, we even dream of them. Most of us get scared even when they wake up. When I dream about a serpent, I interpret it in two ways: deception and a danger that is coming on my way. This danger may be a temptation, a very difficult situation that I will go through and then I need to pray about it before the things take place. Before, I did not think this way I also tend to get scared when I dreamt of them, but serpents in dream and even in this scripture are just images of something associated with the serpent himself to make us aware of certain things.
Ladies, we must be wise as serpent, this is my message for today. When I googled the characteristics of a serpent or what set him aside from the other animals, many websites taught me that serpents are seen as an image of wisdom. Serpent does not act just to act, they take their time to analyze the current situation and how they are going to approach their prey. Many of us just act according to our emotions, we do not even take the time of praying about it or assess the situaion. We just do things how we feel we should do it. Jesus said be wise as serpent! If you read from the beginning of the chapter, you will see that Christ annointed his disciples to go on an evangelistic mission in other regions. He knew it would not be easy that is why He advised them to be prudent. Are you prudent ladies?
Something else I learnt about serpents is that they do not focus their attention on something useless. They can spend more than one year without eating. Serpents are also very patient. I believe Christ took the example of serpent for He knew the people He was talking to knew about all those. Until today, people from Asia worship serpents because of their wisdom. Why do I say all that? I say that so some of us will stop behaving as blind people. Something happen to me lately. I was sharing the Gospel to someone and suddenly he told me that I liked me a lot...I started feeling uncomfortable. I am telling you that you need Jesus in your life and you tell me that you want me. Anyway, I started praying in my heart. The person did not want me to go so then he began to ask me questions about how to be saved. I was very happy, and we ended up doing the sinner's'prayer. I told him then that he needed to find a church for he lives far from Midrand where I live, and he asked for my number. As I wanted to give it to him, something tell me to ask one of my spiritual father if I could give it to him.
I then sent a message on facebook to my spiritual father and he told me to not do it. And that is what I did. I did not give it to him, I prayed with him and then shared a verse with him and pray that God keep him in His direction. As I was going home, I could not stop thinking about Matthew 10:16, ladies be wise as serpents! The devil has so many ways to lead us astray if you do not watch out for the signs we will surely fall into his traps! My intention for giving him my number was good I wanted to follow up his salvation, but the Spirit of God reminded me this guy just told you he liked you! I think this is the reason why also my spiritual dad advised me to not give my number. Yes, I would have checked up on him, and surely he will tell me that he likes me and wants to see me. The devil uses subtil ways to make us fall. Ladies, watch out! Be wise as serpents, do not just do something because you feel like doing it! Feelings should not be our advisor, the Holy Spirit should be!
May God help us to always follow the advises of the Holy Spirit! May Jesus make us wise as serpents in Jesus Name! Amen!
